Civic/Community Leadership Roles

NEW LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Pamela Johnson is a Candidate for New York City Council District 12.  She is known for her community activism and her work as an Executive Director of Urban Neighborhood and the Eastchester Heights Community Center.   Pamela works with non-profit organizations that service the low-income and disadvantaged. She has fulfilled many speaking engagements for various community programs and NYC high schools.   Her desire to help others resulted in obtaining employment for numerous Eastchester residents (including some second chance adults) and secured internships for many of the teens.  Pamela has been a member at Pilgrim Assemblies for 27 years where she and her husband serve as Deacon and Deaconess.

COMMUNITY ACTIVISM

In 1999 Pamela founded Urban Neighborhood Educational Technology for You, Inc. a program designed to provide disconnected adults, senior citizens and children in the community free computer training.  Her organization is dedicated in bringing social awareness and knowledge through educational technology programs and community services, all aimed to strengthen the community’s infrastructure.  These programs and classes target low-income residents and local immigrants.

Pamela teaches how the internet, interactive educational games, and digital media can be used to enhance education and produce employment opportunities.  Some of the affiliated programs include: Business workshops, Workforce Development, GED/ESL referral services to Department Of Education, Computer Literacy, and after-school programs.  She wants to give young people alternatives to hanging out in the street. That gave birth to the Friday Video Game Night.

SUPPORTING EDUCATION

Pamela Johnson is the founder of the Scholarship Advantage Workshop where she conducts seminars for students that enables them to attend college tuition free.  She is affectionately known as the “Scholarship Lady”.  Her generous efforts have afforded her media coverage as she appeared on ABC-TV’s “Here and Now” with Sandra Bookman this spring.
